Debra began writing poetry in 1972, "as a way of expressing emotion".  She published a collection of her poetry in 1992, titled Thoughts From Within.

Debra strives to reflect the goodness of mankind and the blessings of life and friendship.  Her poetry conveys her innermost thoughts as they reflect her pride in family, friends, hometown and country.

Many of Debra's works have been entered into poetry competitions and accepted for publication in anthologies across the United States, including the 1991 North American Open Poetry Contest sponsored by The National Library of Poetry; the Dickinson Award sponsored by the Amherst Society; and the "Awards of Poetic Excellence" sponsored by Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum.

Writing is the voice of her soul, reflecting her deepest feelings from within.  Her fondest wish is that her works will touch someone in a special way.  Debra is thankful for the gift God has given her and uses it to glorify Him.

Another poem included in Debra's "Thoughts From Within" poetry book is "Eternal Love".  In 1999, Debra turned her poem, "Eternal Love" into a  beautiful ballad by the same name.  To hear a music clip of "Eternal Love", see "Songwriting" Page.

King Music and Entertainment News, featured an exclusive review of Debra's "Eternal Love" in their February 2005 issue of the "Country Western Corner".  The "Country Western Corner" is a premier entertainment monthly magazine which reaches out to thousands of friends of country music, other songwriters, producers, DJ, Radio Programers and the Publishers who make things happen in this wonderful business of music..  Under the heading "Catch This Music Catch A Rising Star", the review said "KELLY COBERLY - DKQM - "Eternal Love" is a promotion single that was written by DEBRA K. QUICK..was inspired by "Life's Second Chances" a romance novel she has written.  Kelly Coberly is yet another Superstar artist well-known in the radio world for her hit "Ya Wanna Bet?"  Given the exposure to radio this song will do both ladies justice.  A great "TEAM" with a great song."

MAY GOD BLESS THE USA

 Kuwait is liberated
Iraq has been forced out,
Freedom rings again for them
That's what it's all about.

As I watch the news on TV
My heart swells up with pride,
As Americans help their neighbors
They take it all in stride.

We send packages and letters
To show our deep concern,
Let our troops know we support them
And bid their safe return.

Men and women have died protecting
The freedom we hold so dear,
And those who live must carry scars
With them through all the years.

Each life to us is precious
And can never be replaced,
These soldiers fought for freedom
What e'er they had to face.

The flag stands for the freedom
We hold so dear today,
May God be with each soldier
May God Bless the USA.

FRIENDSHIP'S GARDEN
Friendship is like a flower
With blossoms that are rare
It's buds will grow and flourish
When nurtured by your care.

Each petal grows a memory
That passing times endear
Glowing smiles and warm hellos
Link together happy years.

Friendship's a flower garden
Full of blessings that are true
And I am here, my friend to say
It's a blessing knowing you.

LIFE'S VOYAGE
Within the sea of life I've found
Sweet treasures I adore
With family all around me
No one could ask for more.

The sky is full of star-filled dreams
The moon beams like a flame
I'm setting sail for Heaven
As angels call my name.

My voyage of life is over
I've risen above the sea
I'm setting anchor in Heaven
And God will pilot me.
